The term social worker can cover a wide range of careers. Social workers can work in any number of fields, but all social work jobs are centered around helping people cope with life or different situations in life. Most are required to have a college degree and in some states even be licensed. The standard minimum degree for social work jobs, is usually a bachelor’s degree, although many social workers do obtain their master’s degree. While it’s in most people’s nature to help others, this type of career may not be for everyone. With social work jobs, you may see things that can be very upsetting or disturbing because of this you will want to make sure that this is the right career path before you begin.
There are many different types of social work jobs available, most concentrate on a specialized area of work. You may be a child and family social worker. In this case you could work for the county that you live in as part of their child and family services team. In a position like this you would assist families with thing like getting off of welfare, continuing their education or even finding jobs to better their home life. You may even help broken families by finding foster care for neglected children. There are numerous different responsibilities a child and family social worker may have. You could also work in a school. Most schools have social work jobs available. A school social worker would help under privileged children find the right path. They may help set up tutoring sessions to assist with their education or even just be there to listen to a troubled child.

Looking for a job in today’s environment can be a real problem for a lot of people. Keeping a job in this market is no small feat either in many situations and a person ought to do whatever is reasonable to keep the good jobs they currently have.
The unemployment rate is above any reasonable percentage and has wrecked dreams and ambitions of those that are willing to work hard to have a happy and decent life. The amount of people that have full time jobs is at one of it’s lowest rates since the 1990′s and that alone is reason to work extra hard not to have an issue at your workplace.
According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, the average income for families is way down due to the unemployment crisis and there are yet more living in poverty due to the lack of decent paying jobs.
For those that are fortunate enough not to be unemployed here are a few tips to stay that way:
1. Work hard to not only maintain but to improve your personal productivity.
This will not only look good to your employer but it will also help the company’s bottom line thereby ensuring a greater opportunity not just for job security but for some of the profits to be shared with you by way of a raise. It will also have a positive effect on others in your department as they will either “get on the band wagon” or want to compete with you as to who is the better employee.
2. Do not put off for tomorrow what can be done today.
This has a ripple effect and will cause even the best employee to never be able to catch up as wave after wave of responsibilities will pile up and cause you to be less productive.
3. Make sure that you enjoy what you are doing.
