One of the biggest road blocks to a successful job search is people’s refusal to face reality. They don’t want to confront the truth and indirectly lie to themselves hoping that they will somehow get lucky and find a job. For instance, how many of you who are currently looking for work “really looking”? Sure, you are browsing the Web and making sure you apply to all the positions which are relevant to your field, but what are really your odds, not even to land a job offer, just an interview?
Not much, but you are still doing that because you’re wishful thinking and don’t want to make the effort of networking. Putting yourself out there is difficult. To go out there and tell the world you are unemployed is hard, but it’s either that or staying unemployed longer. Your choice. Most jobs are found through networking. People know that, but it doesn’t resonate with them.
It really comes down to how much you want to find work. If you truly are determined, you will do whatever it takes to reach your goal. Get off beaten paths and forge your own unique way to market yourself to employers. Most job seekers that fail to land a job fail because they are too conventional; doing what others do. When the economy is in recession and the unemployment rate is so high, doing what others do will put you in the same boat as them, unemployed.
You deserve better than that, so do your research, read career blogs out there and build the steps toward a better future.
