You will have to be knowledgeable in pathology, muscle anatomy and physiology as well as massage theory. You will have to go to basic massage school and get your professional massage license. You can take extra classes in various spa therapies such as hydrotherapy, aromatherapy and body wraps. Some places will actually train you on their equipment and special methods.
Jobs in the spa business make up most of the available jobs in the overall profession and hire more massage therapists each year. You can be either a regular employee or be a independent or subcontractor for a spa. As an employee you should be able to get benefits such as health insurance, sick days, vacation days and even reimbursement for continuing education classes.
